In the fall of 2004 we decided to use our frequent flier miles to go to Australia the following spring. Unfortunately we were unable to find seats on United, so we booked flights to London instead. Then we booked two 15 day BritRail passes that allowed us unlimited first class train travel all over England, Scotland and Wales. Finally we made hotel reservations in Bath for our first two days, and in London for our last three days. Our plan was to travel in a clockwise direction around the island, going as far north as Edinburgh.
This is a record of where we went and what we saw. Our story starts in Bath, and terminates in London. You will see that we changed our itinerary several times each day, and that as usual serendipity was our guide. I took a large number of pictures. Some of them are shown here.
You will see that the weather was usually gray, and that the sky rarely was blue. Nevertheless, we had a great time, and we enjoyed seeing England, Wales and Scotland from the ground up.
The above map is click able. If you start with Bath, you can explore our adventures in sequential order.
