Our Fall 2000 Adventure:
Spain/France/Germany (9/20 - 10/9)

We flew in to Barcelona with a hotel reservation for the first night and a
car reservation for about two weeks. Beyond that our only firm plan was to meet my
sister in Calpe, Spain in early October. We had some vague plans of seeing
the alps, beyond that the idea was to go north, then south. Here is what we
actually did.
- In Barcelona we stayed in a hotel facing La Rambla.
- The Gaudi church in Barcelona was interesting
- Sete, France was an old interesting fishing village.
- Serendipity took us to Orange. A great city with may roman ruins.
- We had the best meal in the trip in an old Michelin recommended restaurant
in Toul, France
- On the way to the German border we toured Fort Hackenberg. Part of the
Maginon Line
- Saw where Gloria served during Desert Storm
- Ate egg pizza at her favorite Greek restaurant
- Nice drive down the Rhine and up the Mosel River valleys
- Toured Burg Elz a real castle far into the woods.
- A great dinner at an auberge in Belleville, France
- Spent a night in medieval Avingnon
- Walked across Pont du Garde
- Toured the medieval castle in Carcassonne
- Sitges in a beach resort catering to mostly to the Spanish middle class.
Nice.
- Spent a week with my sister in our house in La Fustera overlooking the Mediterranean
near Calpe.
- Had a memorable (not a compliment) English meal in a local pub.
- Returned for a night in Barcelona, the we flew home to Madison, WI.
